Digital collection

The National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam looks after a collection of circa 350,000 objects and more than 60,000 books about the maritime history of the Netherlands. The museum has registered its entire collection in a database and provides information and images from this database on this website for research purposes.

Library

Books and publications published since 1850 can be studied in the reading room of the museum library. The museum does not provide a lending service. Earlier publications are kept in the museum depot and can only be studied upon request. Students and researchers can send a request to study these objects.

Use of images

About 50 percent of the collection has currently been photographed. Digital images of objects may be downloaded free of charge for personal use and research purposes. If you require images at a higher definition than provided on the website, you can order these directly from the museum (some charges do apply).
