The Japanese priest Shigeru Saegusa, also known as Seiichirō Ichikawa, supporter of the movement seeking to "revere the Emperor and expel the barbarians". During his attack on the delegation of the British diplomat Harry Parkes with his accomplice Sadakata Hayashida in the city of Kyōto on March 23rd, 1868, which would become known as the Nawate Incident, he had been taken prisoner. Here he can be seen at the Chion-in temple, where the delegation was accommodated, two hours before being executed on March 27th.
